Investigation ongoing into teenager's death in Mayo

A 17-year-old teenager who died in the early hours of yesterday morning following an alleged assault at Claremont Manor, Knock Road, Claremorris, has been named locally as Dovydas Jenkas, a fifth-year student at a local secondary school.

A young male was arrested at the scene and is being held for questioning at Claremorris Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Neighbours said there was no indication of a major disturbance but when gardaí and the emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday they found a teenager with stab wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have said the results from the post-mortem examination will determine the course of the investigation.
