Death of widely respected Castlebar woman

THE death has occurred of Nuala Ruane (née Gilmartin), Derryharriff, Castlebar, and late of Kiltimagh and Glenfort, Castlebar.

A much loved and respected personality, she was closely associated with a number of local organisations, including Castlebar Bridge Club.

She is survived by her family Pat, Caitriona, Breda, Michael, Fionnuala, Thérèse and Cathal, grandchildren Eimear, Deirdre, Eoghan, Ruaidhrí, Oisín, Deirbhile and Sinéad, great-grandchild Se, sister Patricia, brother-in-law Brendan, sister-in-law Mary Pauline Gilmartin, partners Brian, Des, Declan and Oonagh, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered. She was predeceased by her husband Michael.

The late Mrs. Ruane was mother of Caitríona Ruane, a Sinn Féin member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for South Down and a former Minister for Education for Northern Ireland, and Castlebar Sinn Féin Councillor Thérése Ruane, a member of Mayo County Council.

Her remains will be reposing at her residence, 60 Glenfort, Pound Road, Castlebar, tomorrow (Tuesday) evening from 4 to 7 p.m. with removal on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
