Introduction to Irish music

CHARLESTOWN Arts Centre is running an introduction to Irish music course over the coming seven weeks.

For children aged from 10 to 14, it starts next Wednesday (January 27) and concludes on March 9, taking place each week apart from February 17.

The course, with Gráinne Hambly, encourages children who play traditional music to bring their instruments with them to the workshops.

The aim is to introduce the young people to traditional music through example and exercise. The participants will be provided with a general overview of Irish traditional music and will be introduced to the instruments, tune types and characteristic features, and the famous musicians and bands, with fun and practical elements included through singing and playing.

If interested, telephone 087-9417959 before tomorrow (Friday, January 22) to book. The cost is €20 for the block of six workshops (advance only), which take place from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. on January 27, February 3, 10 and 24, and March 2 and 9.
