FF candidate calls for immediate apology from Taoiseach

MAYO Fianna Fáil general election candidate, Councillor Lisa Chambers, has called for an immediate apology from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny following comments he made about the people of Castlebar at a rally in the town last night.

The Fine Gael leader referred to locals as “whingers” after being told that they were not experiencing any recovery.

Councillor Chambers hit out: “The Taoiseach’s comments are a clear indication of just how out of touch and disconnected from reality he has become. Enda Kenny needs to face facts. There is no recovery in Castlebar – only this week we saw the closure of a hotel in the town.

“The arrogance that has been the hallmark of Fine Gael in government and their national campaign is now emerging locally and is a sign of the pressure the Taoiseach is beginning to feel.

“Richard Bruton suggested that people who didn’t vote for his party were emotional and weren’t using their brains and now we have Enda Kenny referring to the people of Castlebar as All Ireland champion whingers.

'Fine Gael are lashing out as they begin to panic. They expected a coronation, but people now realise that they have a proper choice.

“The Taoiseach must apologise to the people of Castlebar for his insensitive and out of touch remarks.”
