Search for missing Castlebar man goes on

THE search in Galway city and surrounding areas for missing 21-year-old Castlebar man Ben Garrett has concluded for today.

It will resume tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 9.30 p.m. at Liam Mellows GAA Club, Renmore.

The Garrett family has thanked everybody for their help to date.

Said a spokesperson for the family: 'We really appreciate all the assistance we have received. But we need as many volunteers as possible to maintain the search tomorrow.'

It is essential to have hi-vis jacket, wellies, waterproof clothing and a stick as members of the search party are searching on very challenging wet terrain. 

 

Over 350 volunteers were involved in the search over the weekend and today as an extensive search of the city and the coastline was undertaken.

Ben, an Army cadet, has been missing since March 31. He was last seen in the Eglington Street area of Galway City at approximately 1.45 a.m. last Thursday.

He is described as approximately 6ft in height, with short brown hair and of athletic build.

When last seen he was wearing dark jeans and a light blue round-neck jumper.
