Davis appointed Special Olympics global CEO
MAYO native Mary Davis has been appointed new global CEO of Special Olympics International.
Previously CEO of Special Olympics Ireland and managing director of the Europe Eurasia branch of the organisation, she played a prominent role in bringing the Special Olympics to Ireland in 2003.
Mary (nee Rooney) grew up in Kinaffe, Swinford, attending the local national school before going on to second-level in St. Louis Convent School, Kiltimagh.
She rose to national prominence again in 2011 when she was a candidate in the presidential elections.
Speaking to RTÉ News, Ms. Davis described her new role as 'exciting' and 'daunting'.
She is the first non-American to be appointed global CEO.
