Ireland v France Euro 2016 game alters the local fixture list

THE Republic of Ireland's success in reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2016 has caused some upheaval in the local fixture list.

Not alone have the soccer fixtures been altered for Ireland's game against France at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon (June 26), but so too have GAA senior and intermediate championship games.

The Mayo Football League has made the decision to re-fix all of Sunday's nine games for 11 a.m. The fixtures in question are: Ballyglass v Glenhest Rovers and Iorras Aontaithe and Westport United in the Super League; Kiltimagh/Knock United v Charlestown Athletic, Bangor Hibs v Achill Rovers and Straide & Foxford United v Fahy Rovers in the Premier League; Castlebar Celtic B v Ballina Town B and Manulla B v Conn Rangers B in League One; and Hollister v Ballyglass B and Snugboro United v Mulranny United in League Two.

In Sunday's GAA fixture list, games that were originally fixed for 2 p.m. will now be played at 12 noon and those fixed for 4 p.m. will now go ahead at 5 p.m.

This means that in the senior championship, the Breaffy v Claremorris and Ballaghaderreen v Kiltane games throw in at 12 noon, while the Ballyhaunis v Knockmore encounter starts at 5 p.m.

In the intermediate championship, the games moving to a 12 noon throw-in are Kiltimagh v Davitts, Shrule-Glencorrib v Ardnaree, Mayo Gaels v Belmullet and The Neale v Islandeady, while those switching to 5 p.m. are Swinford v Tourmakeady and Castlebar B v Westport.
