New future for historic house

A NEW 46-bedroom hotel is planned for a historic location in Ballinrobe, writes Claire McNamara.

A company called Nebor Limited intends to apply to Mayo County Council for planning permission for the hotel on the grounds of the old Cranmore House.

The house, which was built in 1838 by Alexander Lambert, an agent for the Knox family, will be renovated as part of the new hotel. The development also includes a health suite, sauna and a swimming pool as well as a basement level carpark and deck carpark.

The construction of a retail space as well as accommodation for elderly people is also proposed.

Local public representatives have welcomed the proposed development on the grounds that it will bring new life to Ballinrobe town.

Cranmore House, which is now empty, was occupied until the early 1950s. It is a protected structure.
