Death of retired Castlebar businessman

THE death has taken place of Mr. William (Willie) Connolly, The Curragh, Castlebar.

A native of Cahercrin, Co. Galway, he ran a popular grocery and hardware shop (pictured) at Main Street in the county town for many years.

Of advanced years, news of his passing has come as a great shock to the community at large.

An outstanding family man, he was held in very high regard by everybody who knew him.

He was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed his years as a member of Castlebar Golf Club.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his daughters Maura (Castlebar), Margaret (Westport) and Bernice (Carrick-on-Shannon), sons John (Dublin), Paddy (Dublin) and Joe (Strafford-on-Avon), extended family, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary and daughter Cathriona.

His remains will be reposing at his residence on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. before removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Burial takes place in the Old Cemetery on Monday following Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul at 11 o'clock.
