Man remanded on Mayo rape charge

A MAN has been returned for trial at Swinford District Court today to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court on a charge of raping a female.

The accused, whom we are not naming for legal reasons, was served with the Book of Evidence by a garda officer this morning and then brought before Judge Mary Devins at Ballina Courthouse.

Michael Bohan, solicitor, told the court the charge will be fully contested.

Garda Supt. Joe Doherty raised no objection to bail.

The accused was remanded on bail on his own surety of €1,000 plus an independent surety of €5,000.
