Mayo grower honoured at All-Ireland Quality Potato Championships

MARGARET Prendergast of Claremorris was honoured at the All-Ireland Quality Potato Championships, which were held as part of the 2016 Tullamore Show.

The Co. Mayo grower claimed fifth place in the competition, which aims to raise awareness of what constitutes a good quality potato.

It is estimated that a total of 9,800 hectares of potatoes are grown by over 500 growers in Ireland, with 2015 production at 337,000 tonnes.

Judging by the quality of her potatoes, Claremorris woman Margaret can be regarded as one of the very best of those growers.
