Funding bonanza for local community projects

CHRISTMAS has come earlier for a number of communities around Mayo.

Minister of State for Regional Economic Development, Michael Ring, has announced funding of €976,869 for a number of projects across Mayo under the CLÁR Programme 2016.

Claremorris: €60,000 to Loughanamon N.S., Claremorris, for finishing works on the school grounds; €100,560 for the provision of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) in Mayfield, Claremorris.

North Mayo region: Ballycroy School, provision of footpath extension to school gates along N59 €70,000; Tidal Pool, Shore Road, Belmullet, upgrade works on Tidal Pool and car parking facility €120,000; Bangor - new playground €73,600; Belmullet playground - equipment for disabled children €24,000; access to Gortmore Lake, Bangor Erris, €4,800; upgrade of road markings at Aughleam School €2,000; pedestrian crossings at Binghamstown village and Logmore Road, Belmullet, €22,000 each.

South Mayo/Ballinrobe: €22,000 for a pedestrian crossing at Ballinrobe N.S.; €14,000 for speed safety signs at Cross N.S.; €16,000 for access to the Green and playground in Ballinrobe.

Ballina: Provision of a new playground - Seaview Place, Ballycastle, €70,400; new MUGA – Abbeytown, Crossmolina, €100,560; child safety signs at Bonniconlon N.S., Kilgarvan, €1,000; child safety signs/road lining at Moygownagh NS, Kilfian East, €2,000; child safety signs at Killacoraun N.S., Keenagh, €1,000; road lining at Newtownwhite N.S., Ballysakeary, €1,000.

Swinford: Provision of a new lining on approach roads/child safety signs/bollards to prevent parking on paths at Swinford N.S. €6,500; road lining/child safety signs at St. John's N.S., Carrowmore, €1,000; road lining/child safety signs at Killasser N.S., Culmore N.S., Midfield N.S. and Meelick N.S. €3,000 each.

Balla: €11,520 for Balla town to develop the road to the sports and recreational facilities.

Ballyhaunis area: €14,000 for speed safety signs at Tooreen N.S., €10,000 for the provision of a 50m footpath to facilitate pedestrian drop off at Bekan N.S.

Westport area: €86,040 to Murrisk for the provision of a new playground; €16,000 to Brackloon N.S. for outdoor play facilities, goalposts and nets.

Carnacon: Carnacon Ball Alley, €16,289, for upgrade of the ball alley.

Tourmakeady: €11,600 to the playground and MUGA in Tourmakeady for a rubber-bound rubber mat under the zip wire; €14,000 for driver feedback signs at Tourmakeady N.S. and Tourmakeady Secondary School; €9,000 for car parking facilities in Partry village.
