Lack of prosecutions blamed for rise in Mayo dog poo littering

AN independent member of Mayo County Council is demanding answers as to why there have been no prosecutions for street littering caused by dog poo.

Councillor Frank Durcan said the problem will continue to get worse as long as rogue dog owners are let off the hook.

Speaking at a meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District, he said the situation is particularly bad at the Lough Lannagh lakeside walk.

“In fact,” he added, “it is all over town. Why? Because people know they will get away with it. The council has to start implementing the law. There is no reason why not.”
