Maeve set high athletic and cycling standards over the past year

The Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Stars of the Year, No. 13

Maeve Gallagher (Athletics and Cycling)

ANOTHER former award winner, Maeve Gallagher has been a very busy girl since we last honoured her.

The young Swinford athlete has certainly set very high standards in 2016.

In August she won the 1,500m track and field event in Tullamore at Under 16 level and is now the All-Ireland champion.

She has represented Ireland in Scotland at the Schools’ Cross Country finals, where she achieved fourth place on the Irish team.

She won the National Community Games duathlon title in Athlone and added the All-Ireland Under 15 event for the second year running, combining cycling and running.

Maeve is a member of the Irish Under 16 cycling team and represented Ireland in races in Belgium and Holland in August and competed at Under 18 level and repeatedly achieved results in the top 10.

At the end of August she won all three Irish national titles at the Irish National Cycling Championship in Kanturk and is now the Irish national champion in time trial, road race and criterion.

This is her third year in a row achieving all three titles.

Maeve will be presented with her award at The Connaught Telegraph's gala night at Breaffy House Resort on Friday.
