Former Mayo FF candidate calls for a Minister for Apologies

A FORMER Mayo general election candidate has called on the government to appoint a Minister for Apologies.

Michael Joe McGreal, who ran as the Fianna Fáil candidate in the Mayo West by-election of 1975 won by Fine Gael's Enda Kenny, made the comment on his Facebook page in the aftermath of the publication of two reports on the failures in a foster home in Waterford and the most recent developments relating to the garda whistleblowers controversy as well as other events.

He wrote: 'I think it time to appoint a Minister for Apologies. That is all this government seems to be doing and it is wearing very thin.'

Responding to a strong reaction to his post, Mr. McGreal said he was not being party political in his remarks.

'I am not blaming anybody (in particular). I am blaming government,' he explained.
