Decision imminent on major Mayo housing proposal

A DECISION is imminent in respect of the biggest housing development in Mayo for a number of years.

Martin Moran Builders (Newport) Limited is awaiting a ruling by Mayo County Council on a planning application to erect 64 homes off Humbert Way in Castlebar.

A meeting of Castlebar Municipal District was told that a decision will be made by April 30.

The project, which it is hoped will kick-start the construction industry in the county town, consists of four four-bedroom detached houses, 50 three-bedroom semi-detached houses and a number of dormer style houses.

It is understood the proposed new N5 route between Turlough and Westport was originally scheduled to run through the site in question, but the route has since been changed.
