The late Nuala Armstrong

Castlebar mourns passing of one of its best loved citizens

THE death has taken place of Nuala Armstrong (née Ryan), Newtown, Castlebar, one of the town's best known and respected personalities.

In her 90s, she was a member of an old and esteemed Castlebar family.

The Ryan family resided at the Rectory, Charles Street, for many years and a number of family members contributed to the development of the local municipal and health services.

Nuala is fondly remembered for the time she worked at the former County Cinema, Spencer Street, where she was always very courteous and kind in her dealings with the public.

She had an immense love of local history and had a detailed recollection of major events which occurred in the town during her lifetime.

Nuala was always lovely to meet on the street and her affable manner endeared her to the community at large. 

She was predeceased by her husband Monty and sisters Maura and Patricia.

Nuala is survived by her daughter Máire and Kieran, her cherished grandchildren Jeanne, Brian and David, six great-grandchildren, nephews, niece, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Her remains willl be reposing at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Sunday evening at 5 p.m. with removal at 6.30 p.m. to the Church of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Funeral Mass takes place on Monday at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
