Claremorris native leads Dublin team to national title

CLAREMORRIS native Irene Walsh was the hero for St. Vincent's of Dublin water polo team which has been crowned All-Ireland senior champions.

Not alone was Irene the star in the final but she also captained the side in their 9-6 victory over Cathal Brugha in the decider which was held in Bangor, Co. Down.

Irene who now lives in Dublin, is a native of Mayfield, Claremorris, where she won many noteable competitions, both as a swimmer and a water polo player with Claremorris prior to residing in the capital.

Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Walsh, Mayfield, Irene, after her great exploits, was selected afterwards on the Irish national team for the forthcoming international championships.
