The late Paddy Faherty

Death of island centenarian

THE death has taken place at his residence at the Harbour, Inishturk, of Paddy Faherty.

In his 101st year, Paddy had celebrated his 100th birthday with his family at his home in March.

He was born on March 7, 1917, and was the first centenarian in recent times to reach that age on the island. His great-grandfather reached the ripe old age of 105.

Paddy enjoyed meeting visitors to Inishturk and would enthral them with stories of growing up on the island.

He is survived by his daughters Mary Ann O’Toole, Nora Mahon and Pauline O’Toole and his son Pete, 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and the island community of 57.

Removal takes place on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from his home to the island church. He will be laid to rest in the island cemetery on Wednesday following Mass at 12 noon.
