David's family to continue search

THE Canadian police authorities have called off their search for Mayo man David Gavin, missing following an incident while diving last Friday at Kinbasket Lake, British Columbia.

However David's parents, Michael and Angela, from Castlebar, are to continue searching for their son by privately hiring a search team.

A gofundme campaign to fund the search, and support the family, has now taken on an even greater urgency to meet the costs of the search to recover David and bring him home.

The Emergency – Supporting David Gavin fundraising page is live on the gofundme website – the link to show your support is https://www.gofundme.com/emergency-supporting-david-gavin.

The fundraising campaign was launched by ISSC Vancouver, who David played Gaelic football for, yesterday. There has been a huge outpouring of support and in the first 18 hours the campaign has raised $111,817 – the goal is to raise $250,000.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say air rescue units will conduct periodic flyovers of the area throughout the summer in the hope that David will be located soon.
