Under-30 Aidan O'Shea odd man out in All-Star selection

WHEN most green and red supporters talk about the Mayo senior team exploits the name of Aidan O'Shea is never far away.

Before the 2017 All Stars were announced last week the Breaffy man was odds-on to be one of the 15 players chosen. As things turned out those odds were correct as O'Shea was selected at centre-forward and picked up his third award.

But O'Shea was just one of six Mayo players to be recognised as goalkeeper David Clarke, backs Chris Barrett, Keith Higgins and Colm Boyle, and footballer of the year Andy Moran were also honoured.

However, looking at the six Mayo award winners one sees that Aidan O'Shea was the odd man out as, of the six, he was the only Mayo recipent under 30 years of age. The other five, Clarke, Barrett, Higgins, Boyle and Moran, are 30 or over.

While O'Shea seems to around a long time, he still has a nice few years on many of his playing colleagues.
