Castlebar Mitchels management team steps down

JOINT managers of Castlebar Mitchels senior football team, Declan O'Reilly and Declan Shaw, along with their backroom team, have stepped down from their posts after three years.

Under their managwment, the Mitchels won three county senior titles in-a-row and a Connaught senior title in 2015 but lost to Corofin in this year's Connaught senior club final.

The executive of the club paid tribute to the work of both managers and their background team of Eamon 'Benjy' Smith and Michael 'Duther' Durkan for their tremendous work with the team over the last three years and their success at county and provincial level.

A statement issued by the club said the club owes a huge debt of gratitude to the managment team who helped to deliver a Connacht senior football championship, three Mayo senior football championships and a Mayo senior league title, along with guiding the team on their memorable run to the 2016 All-Ireland Club final.

The work carried out behind the scenes by these four men over the three years is immeasurable and the club will be eternally grateful for those efforts.

"On behalf of the club executive, players, supporters and all involved with Castlebar Mitchels we once again say thank you while wishing them and their families all the very best for the future," the statement added.
