Apartment fire claims life of man in Castlebar
A MAN in his 40s has died in a fire at his apartment at Erris Flats, Castle Street. Castlebar.
The emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours of this morning to deal with the blaze which claimed the life of the resident.
The alarm was raised by neighbouring flat-dwellers who rushed to the man's assistance.
His body has been removed to Mayo University Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A forensic team, as well as members of An Garda Siochana, are still at the scene of the accident.
No other details are available at this time of the tragedy that has cast a shadow of sadness over the county town.
