Councillor publishes photograph of untreated sewage flowing into Clew Bay at Newport

A MAYO elected representative has published a photograph on his Facebook page revealing untreated sewage flowing into Clew Bay near Newport Quay.

In his post, Councillor Brendan Mulroy stated: “Enough is enough and five years is way too long to wait for a treatment plant.

“I will be organising a protest meeting in Newport in the next month. Nobody should have to put up with this.”

When contacted by The Connaught Telegraph, Councillor Mulroy said it is disgraceful untreated human waste is allowed to flow into the sea and residents of the town are extremely worried of the consequences in a tourism area.

“The work in building a new plan must start immediately not in five years time when so much damage is done to the enviromment. I will keep highlighting this matter until action is initiated,” he added.
