Passing of popular Westport personality

THE death has taken place of John Joe Geraghty, Woodland Drive, The Quay, Westport.

The deceased was widely known and respected in the community at large.

He served as the town's traffic warden and had a long association with both Westport United FC and Westport Rugby Club.

Paying tribute to him today, Councillor Brendan Mulroy said Westport had lost a fine community man who was held in high regard by everybody who knew him.

“His passing is a tremendous loss to his family, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered. He will be greatly missed.”

Predeceased by his parents and brother Joe, he is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Lorraine and Ashling, son Martin, sons-in-law Paul and Kevin, grandchildren Amy, Kalya, Cian, Ava and Lily, sisters Ann, Martina, Evelyn and Maureen, brothers Ger, Pop, Michael and Seamus, nieces, nephews, relatives friends and work colleagues.

John Joe will be reposing in Navin's Funeral Home, Westport, tomorrow (Tuesday) from 5 to 7 p.m.

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul takes place at St. Mary's Church, Westport, at 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday with burial afterwards in Aughavale Cemetery.
