Erris celebrates local girl's marathon win in Melbourne

The barony of Erris is celebrating the news that local girl Sinead Diver has won the Melbourne marathon.

The Belmuillet native, now an Australian international, registered a brilliant time of 2:25:19 to set a new course record at the event

Diver, who emigrated to Australia in 2002, today proved that when it comes to marathon running, age is only a number after taking over six minutes off her personal best.

Sinead is now the second fastest Irish-born female and her winning time is also the quickest by an Australian female athlete on Australian soil.

“Today was the best marathon experience I’ve ever had,” Diver told the Fast Running publication after her win.

“It’s really special to get a personal best in my home town.”
