Higgins set to be re-elected president in emphatic style

MICHAEL D. Higgins is set to be comfortably re-elected president of Ireland for a second term.

According to an exit poll revealed by RTÈ tonight, he has achieved a 58% return from the electorate.

That places him 37% ahead of his nearest challenger, Peter Casey, on 21%.

The estimated percentage returns for the other candidates are Nì Riada (7), Gallagher and Freeman (6) and Duffy (2).
