Mayo On Ice is set for €300,000 return run

MAYO On Ice is set to return to the Mall in Castlebar this Christmas in a €300,000 investment, The Connaught Telegraph can confirm.

The event, which attracted over 25,000 paying customers last year as well as proving a big festive money spinner, will be officially launched on Friday, November 30, and run for five weeks up to January 4.

The promoters are Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, supported by Mayo County Council and Castlebar Municipal District Council.

Chamber president John Mulroy said: "Plans are in place to ensure this year's event surpasses the success of last year and that it will be an even more enjoyable experience for visitors."

Part of the experience will also be to build on the atmosphere created by the Christmas markets and food stalls to be located in close proximity to the ice rink last year.

Already there are enquiries and those interested should contact John Mulroy at (087) 236 5521.

Mr. Mulroy stated this feature will only be successful if it has the full support and backing of the local business community.

Councillor Cyril Burke praised the perseverance of the Chamber of Commerce for ensuring this year's event goes ahead and urged the local businesses to give the eevnt their full backing.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, cathaoirleach, Castlebar Municipal District, stated: “"We welcome any initiative that will help develop and bring business to the county town."
