Hundreds turn out for New Year's Day Croagh Patrick climb

HUNDREDS of people turned out today for the annual New Year's Day climb of Croagh Patrick.

Weather conditions were splendid, making the event very enjoyable for young and old.

Mass was celebrated at noon in St. Patrick's Chapel by Fr. Pat Farragher of the Tuam Archdiocese and it attracted a big attendance.

He extended good wishes to everybody for 2019, added the new year had got off to a wonderful start for those participating in the climb.

The summit was covered by a light fog for much of the day.

But there were spectacular views to be savoured along the route with plenty of good photo opportunities.

Many admired the work that has taken place on building a new pathway to help protect the holy mountain for future generations.
