Inaugural Mayo Garda Youths Awards launched

AN Garda Síochána has launched the inaugural Mayo Garda Youths Awards, held in association with SuperValu.

The awards celebrate outstanding young people between the ages of 13 and 21 years who, by their presence, make their communities better places to live in.

The nomination process is open to everyone, so if you know of a young person who is committed to making a difference in his or her community, go ahead and nominate that person (or persons). Every nomination will receive recognition.

There are four separate categories:

  • Nomination forms are now available from SuperValu stores throughout the county, garda stations in Belmullet, Ballina, Castlebar, Claremorris and Westport, community gardaí in each local garda district, and online in electronic form on www.garda.ie.

Launching the awards, Inpector Mandy Gaynor, chairperson of the organising committee, said: “We wish to recognise the sacrifices and contributions made by young people as they enhance their community at a local level, making them a better place to live.”

She added that An Garda Síochána would like to pay tribute to SuperValu for their sponsorship of the Mayo Garda Youths Awards.

The closing date for nominations is January 25. The Mayo Garda Youths Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, February 23, in Great National Hotel Ballina, while the national awards will be held on the night of April 27 next. Nomination forms can be submitted to Inspector Mandy Gaynor, Ballina Garda Station, or emailed to MayoGardaYouthAwards@garda.ie.
