Man pleads guilty to cannabis growhouse charges

A MAN appeared at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court today (Tuesday) on charges of illegally possessing and cultivating cannabis plants.

The charges against Richardas Selvinis, a Lithuanian national, relate to a growhouse operation in a house at Cloggernagh West, Glenhest, Newport.

When Selvinis appeared before Judge Francis Comerford today he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing cannabis, a controlled drug, and cultivating it.

Members of the Garda Divisional Drugs Unit raided the Glenhest property on July 20 last. Selvinis was arrested and has been in custody since.

The street value of the drugs found were not disclosed in court today.

Judge Comerford remanded the accused in custody to February 14 for sentencing.
