Mayo's third consecutive win is best league start for 13 years

Mayo ............ 1-13

Cavan .......... 0-11

MAYO maintained their 100 per cent start to the Allianz National Football League campaign by defeating Cavan at Elverys MacHale Park tonight to make it three consecutive wins.

The result represented the county's best start to the campaign in 13 years.

It also ensured James Horan's charges will still be top of the table when they face defending champions Dublin at Croke Park in two weeks time, Dublin having lost for the second time in the series against Kerry tonight.

This was another impressive display by Mayo as they came from behind to lead by 1-7 to 0-7 at the interval, a goal just before the break by the influential Evan Regan giving the side the edge.

They performed with composure and resilience in the second half, stretching their lead with further points by Regan, Lee Keegan, Donal Vaughan, Brian Reape, Jason Doherty and Diarmuid O'Connor.

Outstanding for Mayo was Aidan O'Shea whose experience and leadership were central to the victory.

Mayo scorers: E. Regan (1-2), J. Doherty (0-3), A. Moran (0-2 ), F. McDonagh, A. O'Shea, D. Vaughan, B. Reape, D. O'Connor, and L. Keegan (0-1).
