Appeal to motorists jumping traffic lights at road works

AN appeal has been issued to motorists to stop jumping traffic lights where road works are taking place.

Westport-based Councillor Brendan Mulroy said there has been a lot of complaints about people jumping traffic lights in Kilmeena this week. The speed of traffic going through the lights is also an issue.

He wrote on his Facebook page: “I appreciate roadworks can be frustrating but please ensure the safety of the construction workers and other road users by slowing down and obeying the lights.”

One comment in response to his online appeal highlighted the situation: “It's crazy down there Brendan. I was at the lights yesterday and a van and seven cars took off behind me while the lights were still red. Someone is going to get killed if they don't stop being so stupid.”
