Big turnout for charity walk in memory of former Castlebar mayor

A CHARITY walk in memory of the late Brendan Henaghan, a former Mayor of Castlebar, attracted a big turnout today.

The 'Stroll for Brendan' walk, led by the school band of St. Peter's National School, Snugboro, was a fitting tribute to the former businessman and town councillor who died last year.

As part of the event, a tree dedicated to his memory was planted at Lough Lannagh where a plaque is erected.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Henaghan family.

There were prayers recited at Brendan's graveside before the 5k walk proceeded to Snugboro NS and back to the registration HQ at the De La Salle Hall at St. Gerald's College.

The organisers thanked the public for turning out in such large numbers and bei g so supportive.

All proceeds will go towards the Hurling on the Green initiative by Castlebar Mitchels and St. Peter's National School, Snugboro.
