County town riverside walk danger spot is identified

A DANGER spot along the riverside walk in Castlebar has been identified.

The health and safety threat to members of the public, particularly children, is located in the vicinity of the Orlagh Grove estate.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said he was contacted by a number of concerned citizens asking him to highlight the matter.

He elaborated: "In effect, there is little or no fencing between the walkway and the town river, which happens to be pretty deep following a few weeks of heavy rain.

"I walked down to take a close look and I reached the conclusion that the fears expressed to me were more than justified.

"A barrier needs to be put in place as a matter of urgency. The existing arrangement is far from ideal."
