Striking Mayo ambulance workers issue call on FG reps. to meet them

MAYO ambulance personnel on strike today have called on Fine Gael representatives in the county to  meet with them.

They told The Connaught Telegraph that elected members of other political parties, as well as independents, have taken the time to drop down to the picket line at the Sacred Heart Home in Castlebar to talk to them about their concerns.

A spokesperson said: "We would like them to fully understand our issues as well as for them to show their support for frontline essential services in the county."

Mayo FG Senator Michelle Mulherin turned up at the Ballina District Hospital picket line and promised to raise their concerns.

Despite two previous days of industrial action, the Minister for Health Simon Harris and the HSE have declined to correspond with the workers in their efforts to have their trade union, NASRA, recognised.

The action continues until 5 p.m. today and will resume tomorrow morning.

Despite the strike, paramedics on the picket line are responding to all calls "as the public are our first priority."
