Sara McFadden and her dad Keith

Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 10: Sara McFadden

Next on our list of Young Sports Stars of the Year Awards monthly winners is history maker Sara McFadden.

Sara, from Castlebar, became Ireland's first visually impaired navigator at an official motorsport rally in July.

She has been visual impaired since birth but that she did not let it hold her back in her pursuit of fulfilling her sporting ambitions. Her mother Sandra, herself a former rally driver, said the family were adamant that having a disability should not prevent Sara from living out her dreams.

It was a huge blow to her that she couldn’t actually drive, so her dad Keith built her a track and bought her a car to allow her drive off road.

Sara has excelled in the sporting field. She is a quatified GAA coach and has a silver All-Ireland camogie medal. She was further honoured recently by the Mayo Association in Dublin with the Mayo Young Person of the Year Award. Sara took part in her first rally in Cork last July.
