Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 11: Iarlaith Golding

Athlete Iarlaith Golding, the next person to feature in our list of Young Sports Stars of the Year Awads monthly winners, shared the July award with Sara McFadden.

Iarlaith excelled in high jump, sprint hurdles and long hurdles in 2018. In March at the national juvenile indoor championships, representing St. Colman’s South Mayo AC, he took gold in the Under 17 high jump and silver in the 60m hurdles, losing out by 1,000th of a second in a photo-finish.

In June, while representing St. Colman’s College, Claremorris, the Balla athlete took gold in the intermediate (Under 17) 100m hurdles at the Irish Schools Championships, held in Tullamore.

This completed a hat trick of gold medals in sprint hurdles at the Irish Schools Championships as he had previously won the minor 75m hurdles in 2016 and the junior 80m hurdles in 2017. Iarlaith is the only athlete to win all three titles.
