Mayo losing run against tribesmen goes on

Galway ...... 1-11

Mayo ........ 0-12

MAYO hopes of qualifying for the Allianz National League final has suffered another setback tonight.

They lost by two points to Galway at Elverys MacHale Park, the side's second consecutive defeat of the series.

After finding themselves 1-7 to 0-3 down at the interval, Mayo reduced the gap to a single point by the 55th minute with a brilliant fightback with the wind at their backs.

Matthew Ruane launched the comeback with a fine point and it was following by four further scores by Jason Doherty, bringing his tally to seven, as well as points by Darren Coen and substitute Andy Moran.

Galway's only response during that spell was a converted free by Shane Walsh, leaving the score at 1-8 to 0-10 as the match entered the final stages.

But Walsh helped steady the Galway ship with two additional points as Mayo supporters began counting the cost of their side's nine wides.

Mayo finished strongly with late points by Donal Vaughan and Diarmuid O'Connor.

But it proved a bridge too far at that stage as Mayo failed to end their losing run against Galway which stretches back to 2015.
