Mayo stars Clarke and Ruane expected to be fit for league decider

MAYO goalkeeper David Clarke, and midfielder Matthew Ruane are expected to fully fit for next Sunday's Allianz National League Division 1 final against Kerry in Croke Park.

The two Mayo stars were injured and had to be taken off during Mayo's clash with Monaghan in Elverys MacHale Park yesterday.

Clarke, who had made one outstanding save to deny Monaghan what looked like a certain goal was carried off before half time in what looked at the time a serious injury.

However, this has proved thankfully not to be the case as it was no more than concussion which resulted in him been taken off and will be available for selection for next Sunday.

Meanwhile midfielder Ruane, who came off as a blood substitute in the third quarter, did not return to the action due to a cut above his eye.

But, like Clarke, he will be available for Sunday's league final.

Both James McCormack and Fergal Boland also came off with minor injuries and will have fully recovered by the weekend.

Besides long term injured players, Cillian O'Connor, Seamus O'Shea and Ger Cafferkey, manager James Horan and his selectors are expected to have a full squad to choose from for Sunday's final in Croke Park.

Regarding Cillian O'Connor, the good news is that he back training and making a speedy recovery.

He should be fully back for the Connaught championship which starts for Mayo on Sunday, May 5 with a quarterfinal clash away to New York.
