Mayo composer's musical work, Fáinne Óir, is officially launched

THE cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Councillor Blackie Gavin, has performed the official launch of 'Fáinne Óir', a musical and dance extravaganza composed by Belcarra musical supremo Kathy Fahey.

The show will premiere in the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on September 20 before being staged in New York's broadway on September 26.

Councillor Gavin paid tribute to Ms. Fahey for her wonderful work which is destined to bring immense distinction and honour to her native county.

The musical, which tells the story of the resilience of an Irish family during the famine years, is co-produced by Mick Hannon.

The production team has secured the valuable services of 'Riverdance' and 'Lord of the Dance' lead dancer Ciara Sexton as choreographer with the music being performed by Mayo Concert Orchestra and song by Mayo choral group, Voxfusion

The narrator is Sarah Maria Lafferty, Westport, and individual musical talents involved include traditional musicians David Doocey (fiddle), Diarmuid Moynihan (Uileann pipes) and Stephen Doherty (flute and bodhran) with a performance set of original backdrop original paintings by renowned Achill artist, Padraig McCaul.

The Fáinne Overture was performed for the first time at a concert staged in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Sunday as part of the launch.
