Luke 'Ming' Flanagan has it all figured out at Castlebar count centre

OUTGOING Roscommon MEP Luke Ming Flanagan has predicted the outcome of the remaining three seats in the Midlands North West constituency of the European Parliament elections.

Speaking to members of the media at the count centre at the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar, Flanagan said his examination of the figures suggest he will exceed the quota of 118,986 by tomorrow afternoon.

He expects that his outgoing Sinn Fèin colleague Matt Carthy and Fine Gael newcomer Maria Walsh of Mayo will be elected shortly after that, joining Mairead McGuinness as the four representatives for the region.

Flanagan has 87,333 after the fifth count, Carthy has 78,653 and Walsh 70,731 with Peter Casey in fifth spot on 58,212.
