Imminent opening of exciting Mayo art exhibition, Fly by Night

Fly By Night, an art exhibition created especially for young people and for the child in all of us, opens at Ballina Civic Offices on June 15.

Explained its creator Breda Mayock: “It offers up a space where the magic of our imagination opens up while we roam through sensory landscapes. This is a place where we become free to remember wonder.

“Visitors to the art installation will interact with imaginary landscapes created through the use of fabric, paper and made objects.

"Fly By Night is a visual and sensory experience inspired by the theme of sleep and dreaming.

"It is designed to stimulate the imagination and to surprise the senses. It appeals to the sleeper and the dreamer in all of us - we spend a large proportion of our lives asleep so we are very familiar with the landscapes of our dreams.

"This is an opportunity for those who wish, to write down and leave a dream of their own with the dream beast – a soft sculpture at the centre of the installation – any dream and for any reason can be donated.

"This is an important way to personally interact with the piece – to visit and to leave a thought, a memory or a dream behind, by writing it down and placing it in the dream beast.”

Breda Mayock was assisted in the initiative by artist Mick Smyth and Mayo Artsquad.

Funding from Creative Ireland Mayo is gratefully acknowledged and Mayo County Council operates this scheme.

Fly by Night opens on June 15 at 11 a.m. and will be on display daily at Ballina Civic Offices Exhibition Space, Arran Place, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
