Ref delivers McDonald's to injured players in A&E

TWO young Gaelic footballers who ended up in A&E had a surprise visitor yesterday evening.

After the Mayo Under 14 Division 2 county league final, referee Neil Cooney dropped by and brought the injured players a McDonald's each.

He's become the hero of the day for his 'classy gesture'.

The final, played in Swinford yesterday evening, featured Kiltimagh and Breaffy GAA clubs, with Breaffy emerging as winners.

The two injuried players unfortunately suffered broken collar bones.

Afterwards, the Kiltimagh club tweeted: We have 2 players in A&E tonight after being injured in the U14 League Final @KiltimaghGAA v @BreaffyGAA and referee Neil Cooney called in with a McDonald's for each of them. Classy gesture Neil.'

Neil's actions have been receiving lots of praise all day online.

Comments on the Kiltimagh GAA Club Facebook page included the following:

Louise Heneghan: Absolutely quality gesture! A really top notch thing to do, well done Neil. Very best of luck to Darragh & Ryan with the recovery.

Ann Ivers: Hard luck Kiltimagh... ye did us proud. Get well soon Darragh and Ryan. Well done Ref, a nice gesture.

Dan Moran: Good man Neil, true to form.
