Man arrested following discovery of woman's body in west Mayo
A MAN has been arrested by gardaì following the discovery of a woman's body in west Mayo earlier today.
He is being detained at Castlebar Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
A murder investigation was launched by gardai in Westport shortly after the body was found at Kilbree, around five miles from Westport, earlier today after they were called to the scene.
The gardai are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident, which took place at a house.
The suspect was known to the dead woman.
It is understood the deceased, a mother of three, was aged in her 40s.
A garda spokesperson confirmed the woman's family has been notified.
The scene is being preserved pending examination by the State Pathologist.
A post mortem examination is due to take place tommorow.
The news of the tragedy has shocked the community.
