Mayo Roscommon Hospice confirms new appointment

Angelina Nugent has been appointed head of fundraising and communications by the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

Angelina is a native of Glenisland, Castlebar, and has lived in Ballaghaderreen for the last 14 years. She is married to Brendan.

She began working part-time with Midwest Radio, compiling and recording match reports when she was 15-years-old, travelling to games at weekends.

Having caught the radio bug, Angelina began working full-time in Midwest Radio after her Leaving Certificate under the stewardship of Willie ‘The Shoe’ McNeely.

Following his untimely passing in 2002, Angelina assumed the position of sports rditor and had remained in that position since, while also working full time in news and covering the very popular current affairs show when needed.

Like so many others while aware of the work of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice, it was only when her father Frank needed their care in his final months over two years ago that Angelina became fully aware of the reach and services provided.

Angelina said: “The experience stirred something in me, where I’ve always wanted to help Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation in any way I can since then.

“To say I’m honoured to be taking up the role of head of fundraising and communications with Mayo Roscommon Hospice is an understatement.

“I’ve been very lucky to work in the wonderful environment of Midwest Radio for over 20 years in total and I hope the experience garnered there will help me to do my very best in my new position.

“I’m looking forward to the new challenge and to working with the experienced and established team already in place across the various sectors of Mayo Roscommon Hospice.”

Commenting on the appointment, Martina Jennings, chief executive of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, said: “I am delighted to welcome Angelina to the team she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and has a real passion for Hospice and the service we deliver.

"She is joining the organisation at a very exciting time, as we are on the cusp of opening our Mayo Hospice, with plans well underway for our Hospice in Roscommon.

“I am confident that Angelina has the drive and commitment to build and implement our fundraising and communications strategy for the future, to ensure we continue to fund and develop Palliative Care Services in both counties.”

Angelina takes up the post in July.
