Live radio broadcast of Mayo match beats power cut panic
THE live broadcast of Mayo's All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Down in Newry was almost scuttled by a power outage.
Midwest Radio announced to its listnership that panic ensued behind the scenes due to the problem which threatened the coverage of a game that is not been screened by a television station.
However, it was resolved minutes before the throw-in at 7 p.m. when commentary by Michael D. McAndrew and Martin Carney got underway.
Anchoring the coverage from the station's studios in Ballyhaunis, presenter Angelina Nugent said they were keeping their fingers crossed there were no further technical hitches outside of their control.
She later thanked BBC Ulster for providing the station with a telephone connection.
