Mountain rescue team respond to two call-outs

TWO walkers who became disorientated while out in Wild Nephin/Ballycroy National Park had to be assisted by rescue services last night.

Mayo Mountain Rescue were tasked by the gardaí at 8.30 p.m. to assist the walkers get back to their vehicle in failing light.

A first response team was tasked to locate the walkers who had managed to reach a hut in the forest and gave their location in grid reference from a notice board in the hut.

The team made their way to them and brought them back to their vehicle. The team were stood down at 11 p.m., MMRT reported on their Facebook page.

Earlier, the mountain rescue team had helped a man who sustained a leg injury after falling on Croagh Patrick.

A first response team were tasked to the scene and a stretcher party to assist. MMRT assisted the R118 crew in transporting the casualty by stretcher to the helicopter where he was brought to Mayo University Hospital.

Just an hour later the team found themselves heading to the national park as they responded to that call-out.
