Mayo minors crash out to rampant Rebels

MAYO bowed out of the All-Ireland MFC at Croke Park when they were overpower by a more skilful and direct Cork side by 4-12 to 1-13.

Although the Connaught champions took an early lead with a fine Ethan Henry point, it was Cork who took control and led by four points after ten minutes.

Mayo hit back with well-executed points by Henry and Paddy Heneghan and the margin was three points at the break - 1-7 to 0-7.

Tomàs Morley's charges paid a heavy price for missing two goal-scoring opportunities early in the second half as Cork displayed ruthlessness at the other end by adding three more goals to their tally.

A late goal by Mayo's Niall Feeney was of little consolation to the vanquished.

Mayo scorers: P. Heneghan 0-4, E. Henry 0-3 , N. Feeney 1-0, F. Irwin 0-2, S. Dempsey, C. Mylett, O. McHale and J. Grady 0-1 each.
