Cannonball set to roll in to Ballina

Cannonball, the action-packed supercar spectacle, is set to roll in to Ballina this weekend.

The convoy sets off today (Friday) and will arrive in Ballina Quay tomorrow (Saturday) from around 3 p.m.

Exocit car marques such as McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Maserati, Rolls Royce and Bentley will be part of the Cannonball convoy - the largest organised road trip in Europe.

The event has already raised €1,016,000 for Irish charities and, this year, the official charity of Cannonball will be the Irish Cancer Society, which funds lifesaving cancer research and a range of free support services for people affected by cancer.

At tomorrow's Mayo stopover, spectators will get up close and personal with 190 of the finest cars on the planet and enjoy the unique festival atmosphere that Cannonball is renowned for.

The Brazilian Dancers will bring all the glamour of carnival and live DJs, while the notorious NYPD, German Polizei, Fr Willie and colourful Cannonballers in crazy costumes add to the melee - and this year the Pope and Popemobile are sure to wow guest, as well as a very illustrious visitor from the White House.

There's a whole lot more than cars of course, with Midwest Radio doing an outside broadcast from 1 to 5 p.m. and live music on stage from 2 p.m.

The festival continues on Sunday (September 8) with a family fun day, including a Cannonball-themed craft workshop with Ballina Costume Company at Kennedy Glasgow House as well as street entertainment, live music, and much more.
